T.C. Wilson Vacuum Leak Detector
The TC Wilson Vacuum Leak Detector (VLD) gives you a quick, reliable way to check heat exchanger tubes one at a time, so you can locate problem tubes without the guesswork.
How the Vacuum Leak Detector Works
The VLD uses compressed air instead of a separate vacuum pump to check each tube. Instructions for use:
- Seal the far end of the tube with a tube plug.
- Press the nozzle into the near end of the tube and squeeze the trigger. Compressed air will then flow through a Venturi chamber and produce a vacuum inside the tube.
- When the gauge shows a good vacuum level, release the trigger.
- Watch the gauge. A steady reading means the tube is sound. A falling reading means the tube is leaking.
Why Maintenance Teams Use the VLD
One person can do the job. You don't need a second worker to perform this test, which cuts labor costs on every inspection.
It's fast. A typical tube takes just 6 to 8 seconds to test. (Based on a 1″ OD, 20-gauge tube that is 20 feet long.)
It's easy to handle. At just 2.25 lbs, the detector is comfortable to use, and a built-in muffler keeps it quiet.
It covers a wide range of tube sizes. The VLD tests tubes from 1/4″ to 3″ OD.
